Helpful Saltwater Fishing Tips
I have accumulated a list of saltwater fishing tips through my years fishing. I am happy to share these valuable fishing tips with you. And here they are: * Use fresh and if possible live bait for better hook-up rate. * Live squid is the most effective saltwater bait. Use whole live squid for predatory fish. * When you are using natural bait it is advisable to check your bait often, about every 10-15 minutes. Fish like fresh bait. * When fishing for sharp-toothed species such as barracuda or king mackerel use wire leader. * To prevent line twist attach a swivel at the end of the line. * Chum when bottom-fishing. * Always check the first few meters of your line after hooking, fighting and landing a fish. Cut off damage section. * Strike the fish only when rod-tip is fully down when fishing bottom. * Use circle hooks for better hook-up rate and easy removal. You dont have to do a thing to hook your fish with this type of hook fish hook by itself. * Check your drag before tossing your line to start fishing too tight you break your line when fish take your bait and runs too loose you wont hook the fish. * Make sure your drag of your reel is in good condition to let the line come off the spool freely and smoothly. Malfunction of tackle is the no.1 culprit of losing fish. * Take your seasickness tablets half an hour before heading offshore. * Use the smallest weight possible to hold bottom. * Choose the lightest leader or use fluorocarbon line for spooky species. * Wear polarized fishing sunglasses to protect your eyes. They also help you to spot fish clearly. * Do not argue or question the crew of party boat or charter boat listen and follow their advice they have better knowledge of local conditions and fish. * Always tie some ready fishing rigs before you go on a saltwater fishing trip. When the fish are heavy eating they dont wait for you to slowly tie your rig. * Ebb and flood tides are the best tides to catch fish. 11/2 2 hrs after the both tides begin is the best fishing time. * Best time of the day to fish is early morning and late evening. Fish are usually not active with the hot afternoon sun hovering above they are more active during low light. * When a flock of birds circling and diving over a spot is an indication that baitfish are being chased to the surface by predatory fish below. This is the time for some casting to the spot with your stand-by outfit with lure or bait. * When you come across floating debris or wood it is worth to make a few casts with lure or baited hook into it. Who know you might hook on to a monster. * Always carry along a few balloons in your tackle box. You never know when you need them. * White-water areas are predator fish hunting grounds worth to work and get some fish out of these areas. * A good fishing guide can make a lot of different in some new areas. Engage one to show you and find fish for you if you dont know the area well. * When fishing new areas be humble learn from local anglers. The local tackle store is the best place to get information. * Most saltwater fish fight hard do not skimp on hook, line or swivel. Buy only from those with brand-name they are more reliable than cheap and unknown brands. * Rinse your gear with freshwater to prevent corrosion after use. I like to shower with them.
