Largemouth Bass Fishing is Addictive
Largemouth bass fishing in America is like a highly powerful drug which is addictive. It seems that almost the whole population has gone crazy over this weird-looking fish! Largemouth bass, as the result of introduced stocks, are found all over the U.S.A. This black bass species has become available to more anglers than any other species of fish. And,like all bass species they can be fished all years round. With their impressive jumps and lightning runs for covers when hooked, largemouth bass have become the #1 freshwater gamefish. Habitat The largemouth bass prefer waters with heavy vegetation and a good supply of insects, frogs, bait-fishes, crayfish, crustaceans and even birds on which they feed. They are hardy species, able to live in clear or highly turbid waters, such as lakes, reservoirs, rivers, streams, ponds, creeks, canals, and ditches. Bass Rods The length of bass rods for largemouth bass can be long or short; they depend on where you’re fishing from. If you’re fishing from the shore a longer rod is better to help you cast further to reach your target. And if you’re fishing from a bass boat, a short rod is a better option when you need not cast far. The most important thing is that the rods used must have a powerful butt with strong backbone to help you in setting the hook into the bass’s bony mouth, as well as pulling the powerful fish away from snags. Reels and Lines As for reels, both small baitcasting multipliers and fixed-spools worked well. 12-20 lbs. line is standard, but some bass anglers may go for lighter or heavier line. Braided fishing lines are popular with bass anglers, as they’re much sensitive with less stretch needed for accurate fishing. Artificial Lures Using lures for bass fishing is getting very popular. The number of bass lures is enormous, but for bigmouth fishing the lures need not have to be exactly imitate what these predators are foraging. Flies, spinner baits, jigs, poppers, crank baits, weedless spoons and the popular soft plastics are all deadly and effective for largemouth. Sometimes, artificial lures might not work well, probably due to weather conditions. When such a situation arises, live baiting worked best. Live-baits Shiners, night crawlers, minnows, leeches and crayfish are some of their favorite live prey. Techniques As for largemouth fishing using live baits, use a simple float set-up. When you notice that the float disappeared into the water just give a few seconds for the bigmouth to swallow the bait. And when you strike you better strike hard, because of their bony mouth. At the same time, fast reeling back line and wrenched it away from getting into snags. Best Fishing Times The best fishing times is very early in the morning and late evening. But largemouth bass angling during summer night is also fantastic. Soft plastic worms which glow in the dark and surface plugs are the lures for the night. Largemouth bass fishing is always exciting and fun. With every cast that you made with your favorite lure or bait, the anticipation of a record breaking fish smashing your terminal tackle might someday becomes a reality. Good luck and keep on fishing! back to top:
