Float Tubes are the In-Thing for All Fishing Purposes

Float tubes for fishing are getting very popular day by day.

But what are they and why are they so popular? Firstly, they’re simple flotation devices to get you into the water, especially for those who don’t own a boat.

They’re cheaper than owning a boat and more or less free to maintain. These devices are easy to transport, storage and most of all take you to most corners and places where you can have lot of fun fishing.

They’re light; an average modern tube weighs less than 10 lbs. Some simple models are so small that you can easily carry along in your backpack. The tubes or bladders are easily inflated with a foot-pump or a compressor. Or even by mouth, but will you have the stamina left to fish. Don’t do it this way, it’s tough. It happened to me once because I left my foot-pump behind. That was a very careless mistake to do when you’re already there by your favorite fishing lake with your brand new tube.

These floating devices are quiet because they’re not propelled by motor. They’re manually propelled using only the power of our pair of legs. I save myself going to the gym because this thing can give me a real work-out on day when the current and wind is strong. They’re not made for places that can get rough.

They’re made primarily for use over freshwater than over saltwater environment. These new fishing equipment as I called them is best for ponds, reservoirs, small lakes, moderate streams and rivers. In these places they can easily take you to selected corners and otherwise unreachable places to fish, away from the shores or in slow-moving rivers, floating leisurely downstream.

Modern float tubes are designed V or U shaped. V-shaped tubes are designed for better drag for cutting through water, or where wind and current is rough. U-shaped tubes are more suitable for small body of water or very still water and they’ve separate arm and back bladder, whereby the sitting level of the angler is much higher. Sitting higher an angler has more visibility and also better casting, like fly tackle.

You need to wear chest-high wader and a pair of fins on your feet. Remember they’re propelled by legs power and you’ll be like sitting on a sofa moving backward rather than forward. Choose a pair of fins that are not too short, too broad or very stiff or even very soft. These kinds of fins tire you out easily. And I choose to put on a flotation jacket because I’m no Olympic swimming gold-medalist.

Fishing on these float tubes is fun, simple, different and a new kind of experience that you’ll find with so much pleasure.
