Fishing Pole a Deadly Weapon for Many Situations

Fishing pole is the oldest and simplest form of fishing. It’s also the simplest fishing tool with no guides and reel. The line is fixed at the tip usually with a float which acts as the weight and fish-bite indicator.

Advantages

There’re many advantages fishing with a pole, though it’s not much used anymore. The greatest advantage is putting the bait into holes between weed-beds that otherwise not possible with other conventional tackle. With its extreme length a quiet presentation between small little gaps like lily pads, the pole is top. It’s also ideal for children and beginners.

Materials

Pole can be made of cane, bamboo, fiberglass or graphite. The length can be from a few feet to as long as 50-60 feet. Majority of today’s poles are made of graphite. Graphite is light and easy to maintenance.

Type

A fishing pole can be one-piece, telescopic or multi-piece. One-piece pole is usually short and light. It’s good for panfish like bream. The telescopic version is much longer and solid. It’s preferable for dealing with bigger fish like crappie, perch and catfish. Multi-piece or take-apart models are extremely long, usually from 18-60 ft. in length.

Shorter poles can be held in the hand like conventional rod, supported along the forearm. The action is much versatile than longer poles. For maximum fun they’re the best. And if they’re the telescopic version they’re easy to transport.

Multi-piece or take-apart poles are often used for tournament in match fishing events by professional anglers. They can be used to fish in any depth of water. The advantage of a longer pole also allows anglers to drop the bait easily into distant spots which are difficult with conventional outfits.

Line Length

As a rule with pole fishing, the length of line from the tip of the pole to the hook must not be longer than the length of the pole. The correct length should be 2 ft. shorter than the length of the pole.

How to Use

Striking a fish when you have a bite with a fishing pole is different from other fishing gear. All you have to do when you get a bite is to jerk your right hand at once in a clockwise manner. This action will lift the pole tip to set the hook.

To land the catch you can swing the fish into your hand if the line is long enough and if the fish is a small or panfish. With telescopic pole is easy. You just twist to unlock each section and telescope it back into the butt. For take-apart poles, sections can be taken apart to land the fish.

A fishing pole can be a deadly weapon for many situations. Whether in still or slow running water, a fight with a panfish or a big fish on a pole is simply difficult to beat with other kind of rod. Happy pole fishing!
