Charter Boats ~ The Best Way to Saltwater Fishing

Charter boats are specially rigged fishing boats catering for inshore and offshore fishing.

Most of these boats are privately owned ranging in length from 45-100 feet long. And most of them are capable to accommodate 8-15 anglers in addition to the skipper and 1 or 2 mates. They are usually equipped with rod holders, live-bait well, sleeping berths, toilet and other basic facilities.

These fishing charters can offer a wide range of sea angling trips. They can be booked for a half-day of inshore mackerel fishing right up to a full day or even longer offshore, deep-sea wreck fishing or big-game fishing trip.

They are located in most coastal ports. And booking is usually a phone call or e-mail with the skipper. Most skippers will ask for a small deposit.

The cost of chartering a charter boat can be expensive but will be shared by all the anglers onboard. Costs vary depending on the duration of the trip and the species sought.

The species sought will govern the type of fishing gear you need and use – sinker, line and lure. So let the skipper known in advance what species of fish you want to target so that he can prepare the proper fishing equipment for the trip._

Although you can bring your own fishing gear but often, fishing rods, reels, tackle, bait and ice as well as food and alcohol-free beverages are included when you hire one of these boats. It is advisable to ask and negotiate every thing before you pay your deposit.

They must be fully licensed and insured for a certain number of anglers onboard – usually depends on the length of the boat as well as certain state and country regulations.

For most sea anglers fishing onboard charter boats is often the first taste of boat fishing. Listen and follow the advice of the skipper and deckhands carefully – they know the water well and they know how to fish – after all this is their job. So if you follow their instructions well you might land tons of fish! Good luck fishing!
