Bass Fishing Boats are Expensive ~ Cheaper Alternatives to Fish Afloat

Bass fishing boats are designed for bass fishing, primarily popular for largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing.

Most bass boats have raised platforms for anglers who do a lot of casting. They are also used for fishing other species. To buy a specialized bass fishing boat is not cheap unless you have a deep pocket. But many kinds of boats can be used for bass fishing, it all depend on the type of water you are fishing in.

Here are some of the most popular types of boats used by bass anglers:

Float Tubes

Float tubes are the cheapest and easiest means to fish afloat. They are good for getting into places you cannot wade. Float tubes are stable and safe for small bodies of water like ponds, small lakes, creeks and slow-moving rivers.

Kick Boats

Kick boats are slightly better than float tubes. They are larger allowing anglers to carry more equipment, and can be fitted with oars or even fitted with a small electric motor. Like the float tubes they are not suitable for fast-moving water.

Canoes

Canoes are suitable for small bodies of water, and shallow rivers. They are good for getting into tight corners with speed and quietness. They are perfect for 1-2 anglers. But canoes are not very steady watercrafts which are not suitable for stand-up casting. They are often paddled but some anglers have them fitted with an electric motor.

Kayaks

Like the canoes, kayaks are also good alternatives for small waters bass fishing. Those general-purpose models with length of 12-15 feet are good for fishing in ponds, small lakes and calm rivers. As they are light transportation and launching them is not a hassle. Their quietness in the water also enables an angler to get close to fish without alarming them.

Jon boats

Jon boats are small flat-bottomed boats. They are safe and stable when used in small bodies of water like ponds, streams, small creeks, flats, and shallow rivers. These boats are not suitable for rough water. Most large bass fishing boats owners also own one of this small Jon boat to move and fish in some tight corners.

Drift Boats

Drift boats are good for big-rough rivers bass fly fishing. They are heavy and require a trailer and winch to transport. With stable fishing platforms they are easy to cast from. But they are also quite expensive too.

These are some of the best alternatives to get you to your bass fishing holes without burning your pockets than those expensive and modern bass fishing boats. But these crafts are not for you to fish in open water or rough and big bodies of water. Anyway,if you are to choose one of these watercrafts to fish afloat I wish you all the best. But please remind yourself to put on a life jacket while on the water with any of these crafts. Happy fishing always!
